Values-in-Action

The school’s VIA Framework is a spiral and progressive curriculum aligned to the 6 domains in the CCE Framework namely, Self, Family, School, Community, Nation and World. Our Northviewans put the values that they have learnt in action through participating in meaningful and age-appropriate activities.

Whole School Approach – Happy Classroom Award

Happy Classroom Award is part of our school’s Values-In-Action (VIA) Programme. It is a whole school approach where pupils from P1 to P6 cultivate good habits and practise values such as care and responsibility by keeping their classrooms clean and inviting. The award is given away to the class which earns the highest score per level every term.

P1 VIA – My Holiday Time-table
This P1 VIA programme aims to inculcate the value of responsibility in pupils. Through this activity, pupils understand how they can show responsibility for their own learning at home by coming up with their own personal time-table for their June holidays.

P2 VIA – Acts of Appreciation Towards Family Members
In this activity, our P2 pupils understand that care for one’s family can be displayed through acts of appreciation. Besides the thank-you card for their fathers from the “Dads for Life” kit, pupils also show their appreciation to their mothers/a motherly figure at home by personalising a thank-you card and pen words of appreciation. They also suggest an action to be taken at home in order to show their appreciation.

P3 VIA – Posters For Keeping School Environment Clean
P3 pupils design posters to encourage their peers to adopt a positive attitude towards caring for the school environment. Not only do the pupils learn that they are demonstrating responsibility when they show care for the school environment, they also understand that they need to show empathy towards others such as our school cleaners.

P4 VIA – Creating Art Together With The Elderly
This P4 VIA Programme is a collaboration between CCE Department and Aesthetics Department. It is an inaugural project arising from our Primary Four pupils’ Values-in-Action (VIA) programme at our partnered Old folks’ homes – Sunshine Welfare Action Mission Home and Sree Narayana Home for the Aged Sick – where the featured artworks are products between the pupils and the elderly. Through this, the pupils learn the aesthetic outcomes for the art exhibition, but more importantly, learn values such as respect, care, empathy and sincerity through the experience of art making with the elderly and our community.

P6 VIA – Recycling Programme
As part of our school’s ongoing efforts to conserve and protect the environment, all pupils in North View Primary School are encouraged to donate recyclable materials such as old newspapers, magazines and old clothing. The P6 pupils help to sort out the donated items as part of their Values-In-Action Programme for the year. The recycling programme provides an opportunity for our pupils to learn the importance of environment conservation and how they can play their part by recycling used materials.

Social and Emotional Learning

Form Teacher Guidance Period (FTGP)
Socio and Emotional Learning (SEL) is explicitly taught during FTGP by our form and co-form teachers. This helps students to develop skills to recognise and manage one’s emotions, develop respect and care for others, foster positive relationships, make responsible decisions and handle challenging situations constructively and ethically.   FTGP also provides curriculum time for our form and co-form teachers to interact meaningfully with their students. This is done through specially designed Interaction Activities; this also helps to build positive teacher-student relationships and class bonding. Lessons on Cyber Wellness, Education and Career Guidance are also delivered through the FTGP curriculum.
