Programme HummingBird's Fire Station Heritage Tour

On the afternoon of Thursday, 31 October 2013, 19 international students from Primary 4 to 6 had the opportunity to visit the Central Fire Station Heritage Gallery for a heritage tour organised by Mdm Lyanna Ng and Mdm See Bee Pang who are the coordinators of Programme HummingBird.

In order to allow them to gain a better understanding of Singapore, the station masters started off by narrating the beginning if the volunteer fire fighting corps all the way to the current Civil Defense organisational structure. Some of the highlights include the viewing of replicas of the fire fighting engines used in the bygone days, taking of photos in fireman clothing and engaging in hands-on activities such as putting out a stimulated on-screen fire with a water gun. At the end of the tour, the students brought home a FireFighter Polo T-shirt as a souvenir. All in all, it was definitely an enriching experience for the international student participants!
